Lightweight
and handy to
have when
presenting to
small groups
Launched back in February 2011, the
Philips PicoPix projectors won an
‘Editor’s Choice’ award because we
saw them becoming a very useful
accessory for people’s laptop bags.
This proved to be the case and
the Philips PicoPix range quickly
established a 30% market share.
Lightweight and handy to have when
presenting to small groups, they are great
for business presentations and training
from a laptop. The multimedia models also
connect to an iPhone, iPad, iTouch, digital
camera, video camera, USB removable
storage, portable DVD players and even
games consoles.
This means that they can be put to
good use outside office hours too: enjoy a
film on the big screen; share your holiday
photos with friends; and laugh at online
videos or home movies. PicoPix projectors
are so portable and connect to so many
different gadgets that the opportunities
for sharing more and more of your digital
Last year was also notable for
Philips’ entry into the business MFP
market. Building on its strength in
the consumer fax market, Philips
launched two 24 pages per minute
mono multi-function printers (MFPs) for
professional home workers and small
businesses/departments.
The MFD6135d gives users everything
they need for day-to-day communications,
including duplex printing and copying, colour
scanning, fax and an integrated handset for
making telephone calls. Plus a host of useful
features like direct USB printing, scanning
and faxing via the USB port on the front of
the device and a secure fax option, where
faxes are stored on the device’s memory until
content will only increase.
Philips expects the market for projectors
of this type to grow by 50-60% in 2012 as
more customers recognise their potential.
To meet this demand it will be bringing
out new models with bigger and brighter
specifications, like the PPX2055 – now
with 55 lumens; the multimedia PPX2330
with integrated USB cables and MP4
player; and the top of the range PPX2480,
featuring HDMI connectivity and up to 80
lumens when powered through the PSU.
We’ll be reviewing these in more detail
later in the year.
Today, people have so much digital
content that they love to share – just look
at the success of Facebook, MySpace,
Nero and other websites. This isn’t easy to
do on a gadget with a small LCD display.
Until you connect a PicoPix projector. Then
everyone gets to see it, on a big screen, at
the same time.

A Clear Winner
A new name in business MFPs
Philips PicoPix 1020
What we liked:
Publishing director Neil Trim
reviewed the PicoPix 1020 and
loved it for its
tiny size (small enough to be
carried in a laptop bag)
convenience (powered by
USB, there is no need for a
plug)
flexibility (especially the
multimedia PPX1230/1430)
viewing comfort when
sharing information with
two or three people in an ad
hoc meeting.
Above all, he found it to be a
great talking point.

Bright young things: the PPX 2055
notebook projector (55 lumens) and
the multimedia PPX 2480 (80 lumens)
a PIN code is entered on the control panel.
The MFD6170dw adds wireless
functionality so that multiple laptop users can
access the product without the inconvenience
of wired connections. It also has the option of
a DECT handset for cordless communications.
To reduce running costs and the
environmental impact of printing both models
feature paper, power and toner saving
features as standard, including automatic
two-sided (duplex) printing, Toner Save mode,
a power-saving standby setting and the
option of high capacity cartridges.
Further savings can be achieved by taking
advantage of some of the clever consumables
packages developed for these products.
