Neonatal unit introduces video messaging
Following a successful two month pilot, secure video messaging
technology by vCreate will be offered to parents of premature babies
at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow to help them stay
connected with their baby’s progress whilst they are in hospital.
The personalised video initiative, thought to be the first of its kind in
the UK, allows nurses at the hospital to capture special moments in the
baby’s care diary that can then be securely accessed by the parents on any
device at any time.
Knowing just how much impact video is having at the Royal Hospital for
Children NNU, vCreate is on a mission to bring secure video messaging to
all 200 NHS neonatal units by 2018, and has launched a public appeal for
corporate sponsorship to make it happen at no cost to the NHS.
Free GDPR guide
To help organisations get prepared, Blake
Morgan has launched a free GDPR guide on
its website.
Bruce Potter, chairman of Blake Morgan,
said: “The huge growth of the digital
economy in recent years requires a more
robust legal framework to ensure public
confidence in the protection of information,
and organisations now need to adapt to
these higher standards.
“It is not only reputation that is at stake
for failure to comply as there will be a
significant increase in monetary penalties.
Our data protection and regulatory experts
have carefully devised this guide which
highlights the most important actions
organisations should take to comply and I
would urge decision-makers to take a look.”
Action points in
GDPR: A Practical Guide
to Achieving Compliance
include:
n
Review customer-facing terms and privacy
policies. These are likely to need substantial
revisions to meet the new requirements.
n
Review contracts with processors to ensure
they have robust provisions around record-
keeping.
n
Ensure that the risk of penalties for non-
compliance are fully understood at board
level.
n
If you collect information about children
then you may need a parent or guardian’s
consent to process their data lawfully.
Consent must be verifiable and privacy
notices must be written in language that
children will understand.

Majority of UK small business
owners unaware of GDPR
The General Data Protection Regulation
(GDPR) comes into force next May, and yet
84% of UK small business owners and 43%
of senior executives of large companies are
unaware of the forthcoming legislation,
Shred-it’s seventh annual
Security Tracker
research reveals.
The research found that only 14% of
small business owners and 31% of senior
executives are able to correctly identify the
fine associated with the new regulation – up
to
20 million or 4% of global turnover. This is
despite a large proportion of senior executives
(95%) and small business owners (87%)
claiming to have at least some understanding
of their industry’s legal requirements. Of
those respondents who claim to be aware of
the legislation change, only 40% of senior
executives have already begun to take action
in preparation for the GDPR, in spite of 60%
agreeing that the change in legislation would
put pressure on their organisation to change its
policies related to information security.

Are you sitting
comfortably?
Three quarters of staff (75%) don’t know
how to adjust their office chair, according
to a survey by Century Office.
As part of Century Office’s
Importance
of CAPS
(Circulation, Activity, Posture and
Support) campaign, the company showed local
customers and companies in the Essex/Suffolk
area how to correctly set up their chairs.
Before the demonstration 50% did not know
the correct way to sit at a desk and 83% did
not know how to achieve the correct posture
by adjusting their chair.
After the demonstration, everyone was
clear on how to achieve a correct seating
position, highlighting the importance of
educating staff on how to get the most out of
their office chairs.
