Quick installation
ViewSonic launched its latest range of Large
Format Displays at ISE 2017 in Amsterdam.
The new ViewBoard digital whiteboard is
available in 75- and 86-inch sizes, in versions
optimised for the corporate and education
sectors. An embedded computer aids
installation and connection.
ViewSonic also showcased its Android-
based CDM series, including a new Smart
Signage display available in 43-, 49- and 55-
inch sizes.
Collaborate and present
Designed specifically for meeting rooms,
NEC’s new InfinityBoard provides a large
surface on which users can create, annotate
and present. The 65- and 84-inch ultra-high
definition (UHD) large format displays feature
InGlass touch technology.
Connected signage
Designed for digital signage and presentations,
NEC’s P and V Series MultiSync large format
displays support the NEC Open Modular
intelligence (OMi) platform for creating tailor-
made signage. Both line-ups include three
models, in sizes from 40 to 55 inches. The V
Series has a display brightness of 500 cd/m² for
normal ambient light levels, while the P Series
offers 700 cd/m² brightness for high ambient
light levels.
Colour and contrast
At ISE 2017, Samsung unveiled its QLED
Signage UHD displays. These use quantum dot
picture refinement technology and achieve
100% colour volume, with deeper blacks,
sharper whites and more precise colours. The
displays come in 55- and 65-inch models
and are configurable in both landscape and
portrait orientations.
Intuitive interface
Created with InGlass screen technology and
powered byWindows 10, Avocor’s F series
delivers a smooth and responsive touch and
familiar interface. In the words of Natalie
Harris-Briggs, VP marketing for Avocor, “it’s just
like having a giant tablet on the wall”. Designed
to support collaboration in meeting rooms, the
interactive LFDs are available in sizes of 65, 75
and 84 inches.
Biggest yet
The latest and largest addition to Sony’s
BRAVIA 4K Professional Displays range is
the 100-inch FWD-100ZD9501. Suitable
for high-end corporate, signage and post
production applications, it delivers 4K
HDR picture quality, with extraordinary
contrast and extremely accurate wide
colour expression, thanks to a newly
developed 4K image processor and backlight
technology. The FWD-100ZD9501 has 16GB
of memory; integrated digital signage and
media players; 17-hour operation time; and
enhanced user controls.
Team collaboration
Vivitek has announced a new range of Ultra
HD 4K interactive Flat Panel Displays (iFPD),
in four sizes from 65 to 98 inches. LED backlit
technology provides a brighter picture, longer
life and lower energy costs, while an anti-
glare surface improves screen visibility in high
ambient light environments.With 20-point
touch capabilities (10 writing) and Vivitek’s
NovoConnect Solution, the screens encourage
team collaboration and improve meeting
efficiency.
Invest wisely
With so many solutions available, how
can you ensure you make the right
choice when buying an LFD?
Wei advises businesses to work
out exactly what they need so that
they don’t waste money on unwanted
features. “Businesses looking to make the
most of their investment in LFDs need to
understand a product’s main applications
and cross-reference these with the needs
of the business. This way, businesses
can avoid paying unnecessary costs for
DISPLAYS
additional features and functions, such
as software or media players, or risk
purchasing a solution that doesn’t suit
its needs.”
For NEC’s Walter, it’s also crucial to
know the total cost of ownership: “Just
30% of the total cost is represented
by the initial purchasing cost, meaning
the remaining 70%, by far the greater
proportion, is spent on the operational
costs, including power consumption,
maintenance and device management.
But this proportion is often ignored.”
He adds that it is vital to make a
purchasing decision based on devices’
reliability, power consumption, failure
rates (and potential for failure e.g.
through unnecessary cables) and the
upgradability of the player performance,
all of which will have a bearing on
operational costs.
