IT Solutions
HP has identified what it describes
as a ‘new style of IT’ defined by four
key themes – the cloud, security, big
data and mobility. Products, including
PCs, servers, tablets and printers,
will continue to be the foundation.
Wrapped around these are the
software applications you need as an
enterprise and on top of that a variety
of services.
At the unveiling of a new range
of computer and printer products on
October 1, HP claimed that out of all its
competitors, it is best placed to deliver
the ‘new style of IT’ to customers. With
37% of the workforce expected to be
mobile by 2017, Herbert Koeck, senior
vice president of HP Printing & Personal
Systems Group EME, said that achieving
leadership in mobility was a priority.
This ambition is reflected in HP’s
new autumn line-up of printer and
computer products. By their very nature,
notebooks are mobile, but HP has taken
this a stage further by launching hybrid
devices with detachable screens that
can be used as notebooks or tablets.
Other developments ensure mobility is
not achieved at the expense of security,
including a self-healing BIOS and a jacket
that adds secure authentication to HP
ElitePad tablets.
In the printer space, HP has
launched Near Field Communication
(NFC) andWiFi Direct-enabled devices
and accessories that make it easy to
print from smartphones, tablets and
notebooks – in some cases with a single
tap. This capability has been built into
HP’s new A3 enterprise devices but
uniquely can be retro-fitted to existing
HP printers used by 40 million customers
worldwide.
On the right, we highlight HP’s new
mobile computing products and some
new print solutions that make it easy to
print on the move. In the next issue of
PrintIT
, we look in more detail at other
new HP printer products including its
first Flow MFPs for small and medium-
sized businesses, which have been
specially designed for today’s digital and
cloud-based workflows.
