compact access points (AP) and

delivers seamless roaming between
APs, HD speech quality and a leap in
performance.
With a 50% increase in concurrent
call capacity, 30% wider coverage and
14% increase in AP range, Samsung’s
WLAN is powerful enough to support
enterprise smartphone users, while still
delivering voice quality that Templeton
says is “an order of magnitude
better than GSM”. The opportunity
for organisations to ‘right-size’ their
infrastructure and reduce the number
of Ethernet ports by 70% is another
benefit.
Voice Solutions
The communications elements of
SamsungWireless Enterprise enable
employees to use the communication
device of their choice, i.e. a smartphone,
in exactly the same way in or out of
the office. There are three main building
blocks:
1. Samsung Communication Manager
This IP communications server extends
normal phone functions to mobiles and
delivers a full suite of voice applications
including voice over Wireless LAN and
Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC). The
latter links the mobile with the office
phone system so that when the user
is in the office incoming calls can be
routed over theWLAN to his mobile;
while outgoing calls made on a mobile
can be routed across theWLAN and sent
out via the phone system. Smart routing
identifies whether a dialled number
is on- or off-net and, if the former,
automatically routes the call viaWLAN
to save money. It provides seamless
handover between fixed and mobile
phones and gives users a single number
that will ring their deskphone, mobile
and home phone simultaneously, saving
colleagues and customers from having to
ring multiple numbers to make contact.
2.Wireless VoIP client
Samsung’s VoIP client enables users
to make and take calls from a mobile
device. It has an integrated dialler with
a familiar user interface and deskphone
functionality, as well as a number of new
features designed to overcome traditional
weaknesses of mobile devices. These
include a Crystal Clear voice codec for
true HD voice quality, which gives users
the freedom to make and take calls
even in the busiest areas of the office,
and additional answering options ideal
for today’s multi-tasking employees:
‘Later’ rejects a call but adds the caller’s
number to a call-back list; ‘Wait’ puts the
caller on hold and plays a message so
that the person called has time to leave
a meeting or end a conversation before
taking the call.With automatic handover
between theWLAN and GSM networks,
a user can move beyond the range of the
office network in mid-call and remain
connected. Other useful features include
call recording at the press of a button;
and consolidated call logs and contact
lists for desktop and mobile devices.
3. Mobile Unified Communications
The third voice element of the Samsung
Unbridled
use of
smartphones
in the office
can lead to
higher costs
and loss of
management
control...
Wireless Enterprise is its new Mobile
Unified Communications application,
which extends essential unified
communication features, such as
presence information and group chat,
to smartphones. The ability of mobile
workers to see the status of colleagues
(i.e. whether they are available to take a
call or in a meeting) or search corporate
databases, retrieve a number and dial it
from the smartphone is another way in
which Samsung is eradicating differences
between mobile and desk-based working.
Working practices are changing rapidly,
but the IT infrastructure has failed to
keep pace. As a result many organisations
have struggled to achieve all that they
would have liked from a mobile working
and unified communications strategy. In
addressing two of the main stumbling
blocks – the wireless network and
mobile integration – SamsungWireless
Enterprise is helping to deliver on the
promise of mobility in the enterprise.
