PRINT.IT 31 www.printitmag.co.uk WHAT’S NEW Printronix LLC has introduced two rugged desktop serial dot matrix printers as replacements for legacy industrial printers from the likes of IBM and TallyGenicom. With a mean time between failure (MTBF) of 20,000 hours and an extended ribbon life of 25 million characters, the S828 (800cps print speed) and S809 (900cps) provide reliable operation in exacting production and distribution environments. Noise levels of 54dBA mean they are also suitable for office use. Options include a second tractor that enables two separate forms to be loaded simultaneously and an IPDS chip (for the S828) that allows customers with legacy IBM AS/400 and iSeries systems to upgrade their printers. http://printronix.com/emea/ products/serial-dot-matrix/ Embedded security Xerox AltaLink MFPs for medium and large workgroups have been certified by the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) under a new Common Criteria security protection profile for hardcopy devices. Designed to protect information processed by an MFP from security threats, the Protection Profile for Hardcopy Devices v1.0 (HCD-PP v1.0) is based on security requirements specified by United States and Japanese government agencies and includes new requirements for cryptography, authentication and secure protocols. AltaLink ConnectKey-enabled MFPs have a multi-layered approach to security based on intrusion prevention; device detection; document and data detection; and external partnerships, notably embedded McAfee whitelisting technology, which constantly monitors and protects against malware. www.xerox.com Easy delivery E-Office Box intelligent parcel boxes from The Safety Letterbox Company, part of the RENZ Group, free reception and mailroom staff from having to manage employees’ personal deliveries. Used in combination with the RENZ internet portal and myRENZ app, they enable employees to send, receive and return parcels while at work, without relying on colleagues to sign for and hold onto packages. The parcel boxes are available in a range of materials and colours to suit all office environments. www.safetyletterbox.com Creative mailings A new envelope printing solution for OKI’s Pro9 series of Graphic Arts printers lets print shops and corporate print rooms take advantage of evolving trends in direct marketing. As well as enabling users to produce short runs of variable data envelope printing quickly and without any set-up costs, the Pro9542 Envelope System enables users to print CMYK and white on coloured envelopes for added impact. It consists of an envelope feeder, conveyer and fuser, which reduces wrinkle and ensures uniform print across a wide range of designs. The solution supports envelope sizes from C7 to 13x15in and can print 500 DL envelopes in as few as 12 minutes. www.oki.com/eu E-forms made easy With the launch of VF Creator by Victoria Forms, anyone familiar with Microsoft Word can now create and customise professional, interactive online eForms without having to bring in expensive web developers or master specialist eForms software. The solution converts forms designed within Microsoft Word into professional-looking online forms and then guides form fillers through the form, intelligently switching sections on or off depending on relevancy and checking for errors. There is also the option for users to sign forms on screen for a completely paperless process. www.victoriaforms.com RISO world-beaters RISO’s new digital duplicators – the dual colour MF9350 and single-colour SF9390 – combine a full colour LCD touchscreen with 600dpi print quality and a world-beating 190spm output. The MF9350 can print two-colour pages at speeds of 150spm. Both duplicators are compatible with RISO’s sustainable rice bran-based ink and can be enhanced with an optional IC card reader for user authentication. A confidential paper memory print function enables an encoded image to be printed on a laser printer, scanned in by the RISO and converted back to its original form. www.riso.co.uk Rugged, quiet types RISO: MF9350 & SF9390 Issue 49
