Danwood acquired by
Apogee
Apogee has acquired
Danwood, creating
Europe’s largest
independent provider
of managed print
services with annual
revenues of more than
£250 million. This is
the fourth acquisition
Apogee has made
since September
2016, when it
secured investment
from Equistone
Partners Europe.
It follows those of Glasgow-based Direct Business Systems
(DBS), with an installed base of nearly 1,500 devices, in October;
of Hibernian Business Equipment Limited, one of Ireland’s leading
print management and managed print service providers, in
November; and of CityDocs, a specialist provider of in-house and
outsourced print and digital document services, in December.
The acquisition of Danwood, reportedly the UK’s largest
independent provider of document technology and managed
print services to SMEs and the corporate and public sectors, for
an undisclosed sum will significantly enhance Apogee’s client
base, with the addition of over 10,000 retained customers
and approximately 8,000 transactional customers. It will also
strengthen its service capability with a service network that
supports hardware and software from multiple manufacturers
including Kyocera, Xerox, HP, Samsung and Sharp, many of which
are existing supplier partners of Apogee.
The existing Apogee Board of Directors, led by Joint CEOs
Jason Collins and Robin Stanton-Gleaves, will continue to
manage the Group following the acquisition.
Commenting on the deal, Collins said: “This significant
acquisition for Apogee provides us with the scale and reach
to be a leading player in the European market for managed
print services. Danwood has terrific strengths that complement
Apogee’s offering and strategy, including a large client base
of major corporate businesses, government and public sector
organisations, and a strong service network that will increase
the Group’s coverage and capacity to support its clients across
the UK and continental Europe.”
Apogee intends to make further strategic acquisitions to drive
its growth in the UK and Continental Europe.

Toshiba expands solutions portfolio
Canon top again
Toshiba TEC has added a number of new solutions to its
software and services portfolio, bringing new document
creation, sharing and storage possibilities to users of its MFPs
and large format displays.
In addition to new document distribution solutions from AMS
(see page 24), it has entered into partnerships with:
n
Kodak Alaris Information
Management (IM).
Toshiba TEC is
to offer Kodak Alaris scanners and
capture, information management,
business process automation and
workflow solutions for mailrooms,
forms processing, accounts
payable and other business
applications;
n
DocuWare.
A new software connector for the enterprise
content management system allows the scanning, indexing and
archiving of documents in one seamless process directly from
e-BRIDGE Next MFPs. Scanned documents, including metadata
in XML format, are automatically transferred to a central
DocuWare document pool for further processing; and
n
SignStix.
The ideal complement to Toshiba displays, this
scalable cloud-based digital signage platform is widely used by
leading retail brands, corporates and Fortune 500 companies
to create, manage and display content. Toshiba says SignStix is
particularly effective in reception areas, where it can be used to
create a professional and welcoming environment, and in open
plan office environments for displaying corporate messaging and
information.
In third position with 3,665 US patents awarded in 2016,
